Eater | A New Mexico City-Style Seafood Restaurant Lands in Oak Hill

Oak Hill is getting a new seafood restaurant with Shore Raw Bar and Grill. It will be found in the Covered Bridge development at 8665 Highway 71 West. The restaurant was pegged to open this summer, and then the fall, but now it’s set to open next year on Thursday, January 31, 2019, according to an Eater tipster.

Chef Brandon Silver is overseeing the restaurant’s kitchen, where the focus is fresh seafood with Mexican City influences for lunch, dinner, brunch, and late hours. Expect oysters, fish, shrimp skewers, tacos, sandwiches, and desserts like lemon poppy seed cake. It held a preview party in April with sausages and burgers. The restaurant also plans on selling wholesale fish.

For drinks, there will be cocktails drawing from Spanish influences, beer, wine, and aguas frescas (think pineapple-basil and watermelon-mint).

Silver had been the chef de cuisine of the reopened Hudson’s on the Bend under the Prime Thyme Restaurant Group (it shuttered in February 2017, but came back again as Hudson’s Hill Country with a new chef and owners). He also spent time at Noma in Copenhagen and Qui.

Originally, chef David Garrido was attached to the restaurant, but that no longer appears to be the case. His most recent Austin restaurant was the Radisson Hotel spot Dine, which closed in April 2017 ahead of the hotel’s transformation into the Line Austin Hotel. (That space is now open to Kristen Kish’s Arlo Grey.)

Shore Raw Bar comes from Shawn McClain, who used to own Bee Cave Japanese restaurant Tadashi; Rick Wahlberg; and Jim Schneider.

The bright space will be designed by Todd White (fun fact: he was part of the design team behind SpongeBob Squarepants). There will be a patio too. Its hours will be from 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Sunday, and then until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Shore Raw is part of the new expansion at the Covered Bridge development, which will also include a coffee shop.
